Find help before hardship becomes crisis.

Oklahoma unemployment, food assistance, utility help, health coverage, and 211 resources — organized for the moment you need them.

If you just lost your job

The first 72 hours matter most.

These six steps are ordered for maximum effect.

1

File for unemployment — today.

Oklahoma has an unpaid waiting period. That clock starts when you file, not when you lose the job. File at Oklahoma Employment Security Commission (OESC) online.

2

Know your runway.

Savings ÷ monthly essentials = months. Write the number down. A realistic number is more useful than a vague sense of anxiety.

3

Cut non-essentials now.

Every $100 per month you cut extends your runway. Subscriptions, dining, extras — do it before you need to.

4

Check health coverage options.

You have 60 days to elect COBRA. Oklahoma Medicaid expanded — check your household at the state benefits portal.

5

Apply for food and utility assistance.

Apply through the state benefits portal. SNAP takes up to 30 days to process — apply sooner rather than later.

6

Call 211.

One call, every local resource. Food banks, rent assistance, utility help, childcare, mental health — specific to your county. Available 24/7 at 211.org or dial 211.
