These articles draw from public-domain government publications: USDA Farmers' Bulletins, WPA life histories, Extension Service circulars, and mid-century household guides. Every preservation method is checked against current USDA and NCHFP standards before publication.
Every article cites the original USDA bulletin, WPA manuscript, or Extension circular. We name the authors, the publication number, and the year. If we cannot find the source, we do not write the article.
Depression-era bulletins contain methods now known to be unsafe. When the old guidance conflicts with current USDA or NCHFP standards, we say so plainly and give the modern procedure. Heritage is not a reason to skip food safety.
