Home Calculators

Calculators

Your numbers, not somebody's average.

Rules of thumb are how households end up with equipment that does not fit. These work out figures for your own home instead. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is stored, nothing is sent, and no account is needed.

Available now

Two calculators. Both finished.

Each one lives inside the section it belongs to, so the guidance around it stays close. This page is the shortest way to reach them. Anything still being built is named further down, without a link, so you can see what is coming and what is not here yet.

How these are built

A calculator is only as honest as its inputs.

Sourced figures, not sellers' figures

The numbers behind these tools come from federal agencies, certification programs, university extension services, and manufacturer nameplate data. None of them came from a company that profits when you buy a larger unit. Where sources disagree, the tool says so instead of picking a comfortable middle.

Every step is visible

No result appears without the arithmetic that produced it. Each page sets out the method in full, so you can work the same figures with a pencil and get the same answer. A tool you cannot check is a tool you have to trust.

They work when things are bad

Everything runs in your browser with no account, no server call, and nothing saved about you. A page you have loaded once will work again from cache during an outage, which is when a household is most likely to need it.

Still being built

Named here so you know what is not ready.

These have no link because they do not exist yet. When one is finished it moves up the page and gets a card.

Water Storage Calculator

How much to store for your household size, climate, and the length of outage your area actually produces.

Turning a target number of weeks into a shopping list, working from what your household already eats.
